I recently bought a tennis racket..it’s Wilson. Is that a good brand? I also got it in Walmart. Probably not a smart idea but it’s what I got and my mom said I can get a better one later. I know all that stuff about swinging it to see if it suits me. I’m trying out for the tennis team, please help me with anything I can do to improve my "tennis skills"?

Usually, I’m alright at hitting back but I don’t think I’m doing it right. I held my grip in the middle and my friend told me it was wrong. When I hit, it popped in the air frequently. And when it’s to the far side, I can’t hit it without aiming it completely wrong or missing it all together. Since playing tennis takes some strength, does weight lifting help for my arms? If you have any little suggestions or tips on how to play better, please tell…

hitting to a wall? i will try that, it sounds like a good idea. Although the inside my house are pretty blocked up so I will have to move things. :)

Sounds like you just need some lessons….. Most of tennis is not the racket but the player :)

practice agains a wall. the best thing, trust me, especialy if youre just starting. also, pick up a book. i cant really explain how you should be gripping it by tyoing. but its kind of like shaking somebodys hand. leg muscles are huge. heres a good work out for that. SPRINT from one sideline to the other. back and fourth 8 times( there and back = 1) then jog around the court. then srint from the side lines 4 times, then jog, then sprit 2, then jog, then sprint 1, then rest. learn the game forst. try to practice with somebody who know the game. and watch people while theyre playing. good luck. btw, your racket is fine. i used wallmart wilsons for years. just becausei didnt have the cash for some top of the line one. i played through high school on a wall mart wilson. lol

Wilson is definetely one of the most well-known brands in the world , so +1 for you. Since its from walmart, it may not be of a very high quality, but it is a decent raquet none the less, only upgrade if you know you need to

you should hold the grip much higher than u r, it will give more stability and balance. weight lifting is a good helper, but also go for the basics to beefen up ur endurance, jogging, stretches, etc all contribute in the end. make sure u also have a good healthy diet, especially ur veggies. remain focus at all times, and remember the most important thing, have fun! its just a game, so enjoy it

alot of tennis courts have wall cages. its just a fenced in court with a big wall seperateing one side from the other. this is great practice since it doesnt involve someone else….. you can also use the side of a house or building (2 stories or more is better) if you have a big enough area….. and yes wilson is good… the only excersice you really need to start off is practice and jogging…

I have been playing for some time now… several years… And there is something I want to tell you. Practising against the wall is the best possible way (from my experience) to progress in this sport while at the same time truly enjoying it !

The wall is really magic. It is like a mirror, where you immediately recognise your ‘mistakes’ or poor hits (too low, too high (the ball just flies away to the other side of the wall and you wouldn’t want to repeat that) too weak hit, too strong (you just get the answer immediately, you have to answer your own hits)

I remember after practising just and only several hours with the wall, I improved more than practising for several months with an opponent in front of me!

And yes, at first it will feel like the racket is too heavy to lift and hit every time the ball approaches you, but the secret is to kind of help to throw the racket behind your back (to the position of readiness to hit) with your left hand. Everything else will come naturally after you’ve learned the very basics. You’ll get the feel of the racket, the ball and the game (and the opponent)…

And full concentration and effort are necessary in this game, otherwise it just won’t work. But remember to stop in time the practise. it shouldn’t be torture….
